Taxpayers do not have to face IRS and/or state tax problems alone
Filing of tax returns, payment of tax liabilities and potential IRS and/or state tax problems can be very intimidating to most taxpayers. Taxpayers may find it difficult to understand the complexities of tax law and its applicability to their individual tax situations. Taxpayers may benefit greatly from hiring a tax professional to help understand their current tax situation and any potential problems that they may encounter with the IRS and/or state. Enrolled Agents (EAs), Tax Attorneys and Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) can provide valuable insight regarding tax law and assist with any tax issues that a taxpayer may face.
Enrolled Agents are credentialed by the IRS. These licensed tax professionals may represent taxpayers before the IRS. In order to become an EA, they have to pass a rigorous examination process, a thorough ethical review and must maintain continuing tax law education. Due to their ability to work with the IRS and represent taxpayers, they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to help with tax issues and compliance. EAs can provide tax advice for annual tax planning, tax preparation as well as handle any tax problems that may arise with the IRS. This may include helping the taxpayer to negotiate potential tax settlements, establish payment arrangements and/or assist with a reduction of certain penalties the taxpayer may be eligible for with the IRS and/or state. The EA may also represent a taxpayer during an IRS or state audit and/or appeal. They may also sign certain IRS and/or state documents on behalf of the taxpayer. EAs work with the IRS and state tax authorities often and may be able to facilitate resolution more quickly than the taxpayer.
In closing, Enrolled Agents, Tax Attorneys and CPAs are credentialed tax professionals that can assist taxpayers with their tax needs. Whether a taxpayer finds it challenging to prepare their current or past tax returns, has specific tax related questions, or has been contacted by the IRS and/or state regarding issues with their tax returns and/or balances due, hiring a tax professional may be a great decision. Tax professionals have the skill set needed to assist the taxpayers with various tax needs and problems.
