Changes Coming For Tax Refunds and Payments
The IRS is working to modernize payment processing, reduce administrative costs, and minimize the risk of fraud and theft associated with paper checks. To that end, effective September 30, 2025, the IRS said it would no longer issue paper refund checks. The IRS also intends to phase out the acceptance of paper checks from taxpayers in the near future, and additional guidance and information for filing 2025 federal taxes will be issued prior the 2026 filing season.
Please note: As of September 30, 2025 the Georgia Department of Revenue has not revealed any plans to follow the IRS’s lead but we will keep you posted.
